The latest advances in hearing aid technology is the development of digital controlled programmable hearing instruments using micro-processor functions. One of the advantages of this type of hearing aid is that changes in the hearing aid’s response do not have to be manually generated by the wearer. Reprogramming of the hearing aid if necessary, can be done in the dispenser’s office.
Simply speaking, this type of hearing aid is actually “four” hearing aids in One! In other words, the user can change the response of the hearing aid to provide specific amplification requirements in four completely different listening environments, such as, in a quiet room, at a music concert, in a restaurant, or at a party, all with the touch of a button.
The programmable hearing aid responds to a remote control transmitter which is the size of a small pocket calculator. This transmitter controls the four responses of the hearing aid, in addition to on-off function and volume. This hearing aid is called the “Quattro”, and is manufactured by Widex Hearing Instruments in New York.
QUATTRO ADVANTAGES
Digital Programming: Each program has seven response parameters you can set and combine in so many ways, that a great variety of hearing losses can be successfully fitted.
Easy to Program: Your programming commands are transmitted to the hearing aid via radio waves. There is no “hardware” connection between the remote control and the hearing aid.
Four Hearing Aids in One: Once the remote control is programmed, the patient can switch between four different listening programs by the touch of a button.
Discreet Handling: The QUATTRO remote control transmits via radio waves, allowing it to be operated from a pocket or purse. Monaural/Binaural Availability: The QUATTRO can be programmed for monaural or binaural hearing losses.
